Caroline Mills is an experienced travel writer and photographer, and a lifelong fan of camping, having stayed in caravans, motorhomes and tents from a very early age. Sometimes, camping has entailed, quite simply, sleeping under the stars.

She loves to spend time touring the UK and Europe with her husband and children in their family motorhome. She has toured extensively, from the southern tip of Croatia to the far north of Norway, from the Baltic States and Russia to the western fringes of Iberia. Nonetheless, for Caroline, the UK - and England in particular - lies at the very heart of camping.

Caroline has visited hundreds of campsites throughout the UK and Europe, and is regarded as a leading expert in this field. She writes regularly for national magazines, newspapers and online about campsites, camping and touring.

An award-winning writer, Caroline is a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers.

Says Caroline: "You might say Cool Caravanning is a movement, all about getting back to the fundamentals when selecting a campsite. So often the focus is on facilities these days, the accreditation system of stars, ticks or any other keyboard character used to grade campsites and caravan parks places more importance on the hairdryer and shaver points than on the location or the beauty of the site.

"Cool Caravanning seeks to redress the balance and return to the reasons why we go camping:

location, location, location.

"Hundreds of campsites across the country were visited to make this selection. These are some of my personal favourites - and because I am extremely fortunate to live with my family in an incredibly beautiful rural location, it takes quite a lot from a campsite to really impress us enough to be somewhere we're prepared to stay!"
